СССР-2061 - a retrofuturistic vision of Soviet Union on Mars

Project "СССР-2061" is a community of Russian artists and writers envisioning Soviet Union in 2061 in an alternate reality. In 2011 they held their 1st arts contest asking participants to envision Soviet Union on Mars 50 years into the future. Here are some of the artworks from the contest.

  1. The captions to some of these pictures cannot be copied and pasted into an online translator. I don't know how to enter Cyrillic text. Could someone please do a translation of the captions to English since it is the de facto international language.

    1. There are online image to text converters (as https://www.onlineocr.net ) after which you can do the translation.

    2. @BillB Here's my rough translation.

Valles Marineris on Mars by Igor Savin.

I got the "PM-17" landing module. It was first in line, and this indicated my impatience. Erin and Arné surely felt the same, along with 7 other members of our landing squad. Everything that followed went in the normal automatic mode, and we perfectly approached the "Mariner-2" Mars station, which was situated in the Mariner's Valleys. After a U-turn, which I would rather call a lap of honour, the landing module slowly began to descend vertically.

The cosmodrome service team was already waiting for on the surface. We saw them after the clouds of dust and sand, caused by our arrival from the sky, cleared... The team undocked our rescue capsule right onto the transporter platform, they acted in a coherent and skilful manner. When they drove us away and towards the station's hangars, dockers were already disassembling our module's cargo compartment. They were in a hurry: they had to greet another dozen of visitors like us.

I got unexpectedly very lucky: right after the quarantine, I joined the expedition of the "nomadic" station "Bedouin-43". Instead of hanging around in corridors of the base and doing routine work. When the station arrived at the destination and began "unpacking", party chief Kardyshev included me in the first sortie. He was chuckled, and I had no clue that the "initiation of a newbie" had just began. [The author refers to something like hazing, but without abuse or humiliation]

We entered the orbit of Mars and docked "Ares-7" orbit station. We circled around the planet for 3 days while preparing for landing. I spent all my free time by the observation windows looking at my ginger dream, which was now within arms' reach.

  2. Would have taken an economic miracle for that to happen, not unlike US.
